The BLUE sides

16

Offer positive feedback or a genuine compliment freely to a colleague today

Positivity is contagious!  Help spread it today by sharing a genuine complement with one (or many) colleagues!

Remember that positive feedback is not always with words.  Provide an email, a note or a gesture.

At the end of the day spend a few minutes journalling about how you felt after giving positive feedback.  How did your colleague respond when you offered the feedback or compliment? What changes did you notice in your colleague after the interaction? How did it make you feel to offer someone something positive?

17

Practice asking open-ended questions (what's & how's)

Be mindful of the questions you're asking today.  Try to word them using "what" and "how" so the other people in the conversation feel that you're giving them space to answer freely, using as many words as they need to communicate.

Spend some time after your conversations to make note if you collected more information from a respondent by using an open-ended question.

Examples:

  • How do you think we could improve the product / service?

  • What does a good product look like to you?

  • How would you recommend improvements?

18

Invite a co-worker to lunch

Invite a co-worker out to lunch or even a short walk break. Spend time getting to know your co-worker using open-ended questions. Be curious.

Note: You could also do a Zoom lunch with a remote co-worker.

19

Practice active listening

Practice being mindful about your active listening strategies today.  Make sure you're giving others the space to communicate their ideas and that your mind is focused on what they are saying.

Spend 1 minute listening to a co-worker, spouse, partner and/or friend without talking. After they have finished speaking, make a comment, ask a question or compliment the co-worker related to the topic.

20

Maintain eye contact

Focus on maintaining eye contact while in a natural conversation today. Try not to look at other monitors while practicing this exercise on video calls.
