Walk a mile in "their" shoes

Ask a friend, family member, partner and/or co-worker to explain his/her/their current experience. Try active listening and eye contact.

Focus on observing others subtle facial expressions throughout the day

Journal the facial expressions you identified.  How did each subtle shift make you feel?  Did anything you observed set the tone for your meeting or day? How can you adjust to these expressions? What parts of these observations are considered a story or fact?

Meditation

You get to choose your meditation!!! Set aside 1, 5, 10 or however many minutes you'd like to complete this exercise.  We've given you some ideas below, but the options are really endless.  Look on Headspace or YouTube for more great meditation ideas, or simply just sit quietly and observe your surroundings.

 

  • Take a few minutes to meditate in a room.

  • Go for a silent walk.

  • What causes a barrier to empathy for you? 

  • Remember that we have Headspace that offers meditation options.

Setting the tone

Be mindful of your interactions with others today.  Practice one of these key actions to set the tone for yourself and for your team.

 

Define your vision and values:

  1. Communicate clearly and frequently 

  2. Recognize and celebrate diversity 

  3. Adapt your leadership style

Journal the outcome:  

  • What action did you take? 

  • How did the employee/team respond?  

  • How did you feel?
